Helpful Tips from
HYDRO-E-LECTRIC
- To help preserve your top cylinders, perform this step annually:
- Just prior to winter storage, wipe the rods clean with a rag and 3 in 1 oil. This will protect the rods from rust and will clean off any dirt or grease before it hardens and tears the top seal.
- Installing Hydraulic Parts:
- As with any job, if you are not sure how to do it - Get expert help.
- Installing a convertible top is not for everyone:
- If the thought of changing your spark plugs makes you anxious and sweaty - STOP! Remember - some things are best left to an expert - brain surgery, auto transmission repair, installing convertible tops, etc. However, if you are:
- 1. Mechanically inclined
- 2. Have a lot of common sense
- 3. Have a weekend to spare and
- 4. A large work area
- then you will probably be able to install your first top and be proud of it.
- If you are installing your first top - this tip is for you:
- Removing the existing top from your car can be a lesson in top replacement. Pay attention to and learn from what the previous installer did. Keep a Polaroid camera handy -take a lot of photos. We always know we will remember what we saw but - do we ?. Take a lot of photos.
- Removing the old Top:
- Prior to removing the old top, measure the distance between the top bow that is just over the rear window and the front edge of the trunk. This measurement will be vital when installing the new top.
- Tools required for installing a convertible top:
- Wrenches and screwdrivers for the weather-strip and removing the rear tack bow. Tack hammer with tacks or a staple gun. A little patience.
